Gorilla tracking and wildlife safaris

There are a number of amazing animals to see in Africa and one of them is the endangered Mountain Gorilla. Being able to see these amazing creatures in their natural habitat and not just in a zoo is a rare treat. So come and experience that rare treat first hand.

Gorilla trekking is also known as gorilla tracking and it has quickly become one of the most popular activities to experience during a trip to Africa. There are only three countries in the world where this activity takes place, Rwanda, Uganda and DR Congo. The mountain gorilla is a critically endangered species and the three above mentioned countries are the homes of the remaining populations of this great species. There are a number of trips that involve gorilla trekking in Uganda& Rwanda, that are available to tourists and they can book a personalized package that suits their interests.

Many of these safari packages are several days in length. Each day’s excursion may be in a different location. Tourists will start off having breakfast and then set out on that day’s adventure. Tracking a group of gorillas can take several hours depending on the movement of the group. You are usually allowed a certain amount of time to stay with the gorillas in order to take pictures.

The Lodge is in the southern sector of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, approximately 1793m above sea level, and where the habituated Rushaga, and Nkuringo gorilla groups are to be found as well as Mount Mgahinga National Park.  With breathtaking views over Lake Mulehe there are many other activities on offer such as hiking in the Virungas, boat trips on Lake Mulehe or Lake Mutanda, village walks, forest walks and golden monkey trekking at Mgahinga NP.

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is best known for its mountain gorillas as well as spectacular birds. There are 23 of the 24 Albertine Rift endemics including the African green broadbill, bar tailed trogon and other beautiful forest species.

Day Two:  Gorilla trekking

Time to trek the gorillas. Set off to the departure point for a full briefing and to meet your gorilla trek guide.  The guides will have been identifying the position of each gorilla group and know which is the closest departure point to trek from.  The hiking is through thick, verdant rainforest. With your guide and porter using a machete to clear a path and assist you up and down steep terrain, spend time with the gorillas in their natural habitat is an amazing and unforgettable experience. The final trek times can vary enormously according to where the gorillas have moved to but most guests spend an hour with these amazing wild animals.  If time permits, there are additional activities, unique to Bwindi, which you can participate in during the afternoon.
