Kilimanjaro Trek – Machame Route

Your Itinerary

Arriving at the airport you will be met by a representative and transferred to Moshi Town. Have an early evening pre-climb briefing regarding the trek before retiring for the evening.

Moshi – Machame (1000ft/3000m). After a hearty breakfast transfer to Kilimanjaro National Park Gate at Machame. Arriving at the gate you will take care of final preperations before beginning the ascent into the rainforest at the base of the mountain. After a break for lunch you will reach the Machame Camping site in the late afternoon, hiking time ranges from 5 to 7 hours.

Shira Camp (12500ft/3800m). The next morning after breakfast you continue your ascent, climbing through forest you eventually emerge to a stretch of heath and moorland, in the distance you should be able to see the Western Breach with its amazing glaciers. Continuing on you will reach Shira Campsite where you will have dinner and spend the night. Hiking time ranges from 5 to 7 hours.

Barranco (13000ft/3900m). The hardest day yet, we will depart early crossing the semi desert and rocky landscape, which surrounds Lava Tower. After lunch we will climb ridge crest reaching Barranco Camp, where will have dinner overlooking marvelous scenery and hopefully a stunning sunset. Hiking time 5 to 7 hours.

Barafu Camp (15500 ft/4600m). Our 8-9 hours day begins after breakfast begins early as we cross the floor of the Great Barranco Valley, over the imposing Barranco wall, before heading down to Karanga Valley. This is the last water stop on the route, as there is no water at Barafu Camp. Barafu is cold and bleak and totally exposed to the elements. Have dinner and get some well deserved sleep as we attempt to climb the summit the next day.

Mweka Camp (10000ft/3000m). A very early start as you prepare to attempt to climb the summit. Preparing your equitment and ski stick you will conquer the ice capped summit of Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa at 19340ft/5896m. Take some pictures of your incredible accomplishment before beginning your descent to Mweka Camp. Hiking time 7-8 hours.

After a well deserved breakfast it is a short hike to the Park gate at Mweka Wildlife College, where you will receive your summit certificates. From here you will be met by your guide and driver who will transfer you back to Moshi for a well deserved dinner and hot shower.

Departure. After breakfast transfer to Kilimanjaro airport for your onward flight.
